35 SWEENG Busacca

Sweden and England drew 2-2, ensuring the both teams reached the Round of 16. In a match where all players were shying back from the risk of investing too much into going for a goal, referee Massimo Busacca could use his preferred style of staying in the background, letting the game flow and not involving himself overly much.

Busacca had an easy match considering the general lack of heavy fouls or other unsportmanslike behaviour. He used the advantage rule often and was able to keep his cards into his pocket until the final fifteen minutes. If he should have booked any earlier is a question one has to answer for oneself based on the highlights.

There was little required in terms of player management and soft skills. His foul decisions were not always fully convincing, though there weren’t any egrogious mistakes either. Both ARs had a calm evening, with only Matthias Arnet being called into action once, raising his flag correctly in 10’.
